I grew up watching an unforgettable era of Test Cricket where the West Indies never lost a series. When they toured Australia even the fans were filled with dread. This team of athletic power hitters intimidating bowlers and acrobatic fieldsmen were awe inspiring to watch. They were giants in the game.
Now nearly twenty years on, where have they gone? The current West Indies team have begun a Test Match in Brisbane and look like a junior touring team. Where is the menace, the power, and the awe? They all (with the exception of Benn) look a lot shorter and slower. They are not on the path to repeat former glories.
How I long for another Ambrose and the 'hip to heart' peppering of our batsmen. Another Viv Richards who just oozed power and intimidation. Another dynamic opening duo like Haynes and Greenidge. I feel that I will be waiting a long time for cricket to regain its Glamour XI.

Finally awarded the captaincy of the Her Magesty's Ship England, Kevin Pietersen sets sail to restore the might of English cricket. His first voyage will have calm seas but there is a looming storm that will test his battleworthiness.
Great players don't always make great captains, and a great captain doesn't make a great team. Talented players peaking in performance and sticking to good strategy will be required when the Aussies return to seek revenge for 2005.
